So… what exactly does Preston Fieldworks do?
We find problems, missed opportunities, and better ways of doing business.
Sometimes that means improving a process. Sometimes it’s a customer experience issue, a marketing opportunity, outdated technology, a product launch, a broken website journey, or an operation that has simply become harder to manage than it needs to be.
You don’t need to know exactly what kind of consultant you need before contacting us.
That’s part of the job.
Do I need to know what my problem is?
No.
You might know exactly what you need help with.
Or you might simply know:
Something isn’t working.
Maybe sales have slowed. Customers aren’t converting. Employees are frustrated. You’re spending too much time on something that should be simple. You want to launch something new but don’t know where to start.
Bring us the problem you think you have.
We’ll start there.
What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Preston Fieldworks was built for independent businesses and the people behind them.
Restaurants. RV resorts and campgrounds. Contractors and trades. Boutiques. Hospitality businesses. Manufacturers. Service businesses. Tourism businesses. Growing companies. New concepts.
If you’ve built something you care about and believe it could work better, we’re interested.
What happens when you come to my business?
First, we experience it.
Depending on the engagement, that might mean finding you online, navigating your website, making a reservation, buying your product, visiting your location, experiencing your service, observing operations, speaking with employees, and talking with customers when appropriate.
Then we look behind the scenes.
Processes. Data. Technology. Operations. Marketing. Brand. Customer experience. Employee experience. Competition.
Before we tell you what we think, we want to see what they see.
Are you a marketing company?
No.
Marketing might be part of the solution, but we don’t assume it is.
If customers aren’t coming through the door, the answer could be marketing.
It could also be that they can’t find you online. Your booking process might be broken. Your pricing could be confusing. Your best service might be practically invisible. Or you may already have plenty of customers and an operational problem is preventing you from serving more of them.
We diagnose before we prescribe.
Are you going to hand me a giant report and disappear?
That’s not the goal.
Recommendations should be understandable, prioritized, and realistic for your business.
We’ll tell you what we found, why it matters, what we believe should happen next, and what deserves attention first.
Depending on the engagement, Preston Fieldworks can also help implement those recommendations.
What if the solution requires something you don’t do?
Then we’ll say so.
No consultant is an expert in everything, and pretending otherwise doesn’t help your business.
When specialized expertise is needed, we can work alongside your existing people or bring in trusted specialists when appropriate.
The objective isn’t for Preston Fieldworks to do everything.
It’s to figure out what actually needs to be done and get the right people involved.
Are you going to tell me everything I’m doing wrong?
No.
We’re just as interested in what’s working.
A good diagnostic protects the things that make your business successful while identifying where something is getting in the way.
Sometimes the opportunity isn’t fixing something broken at all. It’s recognizing something you’re already doing exceptionally well and figuring out how to capitalize on it.
My business is small. Is consulting really for me?
That’s exactly why Preston Fieldworks exists.
Large companies have analysts, strategists, designers, technology teams, marketing departments, operations specialists, and consultants available when something needs to change.
Independent businesses are often expected to figure all of that out themselves while simultaneously running the business.
We think that’s a pretty uneven playing field.
We’re here to help change that.
Will you actually travel to my business?
Yes. That’s the Fieldworks part.
For many engagements, being physically present is valuable because spreadsheets and video calls can’t tell us everything.
We want to understand the business in the environment where it actually operates.
Not every project requires travel, though. Some engagements can be completed remotely or through a combination of remote and onsite work.
Why not just hire someone local?
You absolutely should when local expertise is what the problem requires.
Our value is different.
We bring an outside perspective, experience across business disciplines, and a willingness to question assumptions that can become invisible when you work inside the same business every day.
Sometimes you need someone who knows your business intimately.
Sometimes you need someone seeing it for the first time.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the problem and scope.
Some businesses may only need a focused diagnostic. Others may want ongoing strategy or implementation support.
We’ll define the scope and price before work begins so you know exactly what you’re agreeing to.
And if we believe you can solve something yourself without paying us to do it, we’ll tell you.
What if I’m not sure whether Preston Fieldworks can help?
Tell us what’s going on.
You don’t need a polished problem statement or a five-year strategic plan.
Tell us what you’re seeing, what’s frustrating you, what you’re trying to accomplish, or what keeps you up at night.
We’ll start there.
